Biography

I am Rifat from Bangladesh. I am a Postdoctoral Fellow at CSIRO's Data61. I am working on "Diversity and Inclusion in Artificial Intelligence" and "Requirements Engineering for Responsible Artificial Intelligence (RE4RAI)". I completed my Ph.D. from the Department of Software Systems and Cybersecurity (OVIS Lab) and the Faculty of Information Technology at Monash University in 2022. My Ph.D. work focused on "Operationalizing Human Values in Mobile Applications" under the supervision of Professor Jon WhittleAssociate Professor Gillian OliverDr. Mojtaba Shahin, and Dr. Waqar Hussain. My research interests are Diversity and Inclusion in AI, Software Engineering for Responsible AI, Human Values in Software Engineering, Values and Ethics in AI.

I completed my B.Sc. and M.Sc. from the department of Information and Communication Engineering at University of Rajshahi in Bangladesh. Prior to coming to Monash, I was a faculty member in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Daffodil International University, Dhaka, Bangladesh.

It is my long cherished dream to do something for women in Bangladesh and it is my belief that doing extensive research on women empowerment through technology is the best way to achieve that. I am fortunate to have been given the opportunity to pursue higher studies on such an area where my target people are female farmers in rural Bangladesh.

From the very beginning of my career, I was involved in research and achieved the “Young Scientist” award in Annual Research Meet 2016 arranged by Venus International Foundation, India for my contribution to the field of Computer Science. It is my dream to continue my career as a researcher and serve the people of Bangladesh through my knowledge, skill and expertise.
