Biography

Melinda Toomey is an optometrist clinician-researcher with a wide range of clinical, educational, leadership, and research experience across a variety of healthcare settings. She received her bachelor’s degree in optometry from the Queensland University of Technology, her Master of Optometry from UNSW, and her PhD from UNSW.  Melinda’s doctoral thesis, for which she received a Dean’s Award, investigated methods to improve the delivery of eyecare by optometrists to older Australians. Her research interests include evidence-based practice, age-related eye disease, health services research and public health optometry. She is a Research Fellow at The University of Queensland investigating ways to support evidence-based hearing and vision care for older adults with cognitive impairment. Melinda is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry.
