Biography

Associate Professor Lord has a Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering, Master of Biomedical Engineering and First class Honours degree in Chemical Engineering from UNSW. She publishes widely in biomaterials and extracellular matrix biochemistry with a focus on blood contacting applications. Her research has been supported by a number of grants including a prestigious Australian Research Council Postdoctoral Fellowship (2010-2012). She has published over 80 peer-reviewed scholarly articles and delivered invited keynote lectures in Australia and internationally.

Associate Professor Lord serves on the Standards Australia committee HE-030 Biological and Clinical Evaluation of Medical Devices that reviews and ratifies the International Standard ISO 10993 and TC 194. She is the President of the Matrix Biology Society of Australia and New Zealand. In 2014, Associate Professor Lord was named a NSW Young Tall Poppy by the Australian Institute of Policy and Science.

Megan's research is interdisciplinary combining the fields of biomaterials and extracellular matrix biochemistry with a focus on blood contacting applications and utilises her expertise on the analysis of dynamic interactions between cells, proteins and biomaterials. She utilises biomimetic approaches to develop biomaterials that effectively interface with the vasculature for applications as anticoagulant therapies, blood component storage, vascular grafts, soft tissue repair such as diabetic wounds and targeting the vasculature for cancer drug delivery therapy. Megan collaborates widely with industry and international academic institutions and is driven to make novel contributions to science that will benefit society.
