Biography

Joanna is a Research Scientist at CSIRO based in Werribee, Victoria. Her current work centres mainly around volatile aroma compounds, their interactions with plant proteins and how to improve plant-based milks. Joanna has studied in Peru, France and Australia. She has a Master’s degree from Montpellier SupAgro in oenology and viticulture and a PhD in wine science from the University of Adelaide. She is passionate about viticulture and winemaking and has worked on the determination of objective markers to predict Chardonnay wines’ quality which also involved the development of objective tools to discriminate between different levels of quality in Chardonnay grapes; as well as projects to improve our understanding the effects of extreme weather events on grape composition and wine quality and develop mitigation strategies. Other interests include chemometrics and machine learning.
