Biography

I am a former primary and high school teacher. At present I am conducting a series of extended research studies to build teacher capacity in STEM in NSW, ACT and Victorian schools. My work reinforces the importance of building teacher capacity through ongoing professional learning in school-university partnerships. The pedagogical framework featured in my recent book: Technology integration and High Possibility Classrooms: Building from TPACK is leading changes in the way students learn in schools and was developed through deep studies of practice in Australian teachers’ classrooms. I also teach pre-service teachers in postgraduate programs in the School of International Studies and Education at the University of Technology Sydney; I am a founding member of the STEM Education Futures Research Centre in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences within the university. In April 2019 my research was awarded 'High Impact' by the Australian Research Council in its first "Impact and Engagement Assessment". A new book I am about to commence writing details research designed to build teacher capacity in teaching STEM in Australian low SES, urban and language diverse primary schools; it will be published by Routledge in 2020.
