Biography

As a first generation Australian Dr Gabriela Khoury is passionate about increasing diversity in STEM fields and creating opportunities for all school students to learn science.

Gabriela is a research fellow at the Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute. Her research interests are in how the immune system responds to viral infections and vaccinations; and what happens when the immune system doesn't function properly during infections (like HIV and COVID-19) and other chronic illnesses.  Gabriela enjoys teaching the next generation of immunologists at the Department of Immunology and Pathology at Monash University.

Gabriela is on the Australian and New Zealand Society for Immunology (ASI) council. She is passionate about promoting immunology to the public through science outreach and engagement programs in her role as the ASI Day of Immunology coordinator and social media manager. In 2019, she led the successful prize-winning campaign for the ‘Best International Day of Immunology Campaign’ awarded by the International Union of Immunological Societies. Gabriela is proud of all the Day of Immunology volunteer committee members who organise events. (Read more below).
