Biography

I am a PhD candidate in Computer Science at the University of New South Wales, Canberra.  My research interests lie in the areas of data science and machine learning including time series analysis and recommender systems. I am currently conducting analysis and generating predictions regarding video game player populations in the Steam platform. Previously, I have conducted research to personalize the diversity of recommendations generated by recommender systems.

I completed my BSc degree in Computer Science at the University of Colombo School of Computing, Sri Lanka in 2016. Also, I received the Computing Project Award-2016 for my undergraduate research project from the Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Science. This research project was the main catalyst for my interest in research studies, especially, in the domains of data science and machine learning.  Furthermore, working as a Software Engineer intern at WSO2, Sri Lanka, I obtained hands-on industry experience.

In addition to research and development, I enjoy science communication. In fact, I have various communication experiences under my belt. I have conducted research presentations in both international and national conferences. Also, a video based on research work conducted during my PhD study was shared in the social media channels of my university. I was one of the three winners of the 3MT competition of UNSW Canberra 2020. In addition, I have teaching experience ranging from primary students to university students.  I was a teaching instructor/assistant at the University of Colombo School of Computing, Sri Lanka in 2016 for several core computer science subjects. Also, I have motivated and guided school students to enjoy IT during my roles as an instructor at Young Women in Engineering summer School Canberra and a camp facilitator/teacher at Code Like a Girl Australia. Motivating the next generation to explore the fascination in STEM is something I love doing.

When I am not busy being an avid researcher, I enjoy doing strength exercises, taking nature walks, and trying out new recipes.
