Biography

Bita Zaferanloo is a lecturer in the Microbial Biotechnology field with a research interest in Natural Products and Drug Discovery, Environmental Science and STEMM Education. She has held the position of Deputy Academic Director for Student Engagement in the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Technology for 3 years. She leads WIL initiatives and collaborates intensively with industry, community organisations and university services to develop students’ employability skills and showcase best practice. Dr Zaferanloo convenes and lectures Communication for Scientists, a core second year unit that will contribute to this research. She is the third-time recipient of an Adobe Grant for teaching initiatives and designing authentic assessments. Dr Zaferanloo believes community knowledge is a powerful force and her aim is to empower students to act as science communicators to lead and shape the future of STEMM.
