Biography
Professor Bernadette McCabe is Director at the University of Southern Queensland’s Centre for Agricultural Engineering and is a recognised leader and academic in agricultural & industrial bioengineering. After a prestigious 10 year learning and teaching career, Bernadette turned to her early CSIRO training as a rumen microbiologist to carve out an equally successful research career over the last 15 years. Her research focuses on addressing opportunities and challenges to achieving circular economies in the agri-food sector by applying advanced bioengineering methods to increase energy capture and value adding from residues. The research has been applied to water utilities, local councils, and health sectors as well as the livestock and cropping sectors (both on and off farm). Current appointments include member of the Australian Research Council College of Experts and Australia’s National Team Leader for the International Energy Agency (IEA) Bioenergy program Task 37: Energy from Biogas. Bernadette has established a wide network of national and international research, industry and government contacts and is a recognised authority to progress a national agenda for innovative clean energy and waste recovery
